Are you a local author or illustrator? We want to promote and celebrate your work!
We invite you to apply for Port Moody Public Library's 2019 White Pines Collection. The collection will highlight local authors and illustrators in our community.
All books that are selected will be added to the collection for one year and made available for borrowing during that time. The successful applicants will be promoted on the library's social media and website, be featured in one-on-one interviews, and be celebrated at a glitzy gala in the spring as we launch the collection.
- Author/illustrator currently resides in Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Anmore, or Belcarra.
- Book was published between 2013 and 2019.
- Book is written in English.
- Book is professionally bound for the rigours of circulation.
- Submitting author/illustrator is the legal rights holder of material and book does not contravene Canadian legislation.
How to apply
Submit a completed application package (download the PDF or Microsoft Word file) and one copy of your book to the Information Desk at the Port Moody Public Library from January 2 – March 1, 2019.
Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
Paper copies of the application package can be picked up at the library Information Desk.
All submissions must meet our selection criteria and be approved by a selection committee. Submitting an application package does not guarantee that your book will be added to the White Pines Collection. Upon acceptance into the Collection, authors will be given a $25 honorarium for their work. If a book is not selected for the collection, the author will be contacted to arrange the return of the item.
Frequently asked questions
I submitted my application, but haven't heard back yet.
We're working hard and constantly adding new books to our collection! We hope to contact all applicants by mid-March 2019.
What if I can't come into the library, or it's inconvenient for me?
If you prefer not to submit in person at the library, you can mail your completed application package along with one copy of your book directly to us at:

100 Newport Drive
Port Moody, BC V3H 5C3
Do you accept ebooks?
At this time we do not accept e-books, but we hope to start adding them in the future, so please check back!
Can children and teens submit?
Yes! Young local authors are encouraged to submit their book. Parent/guardian signature is required for authors 18 years of age and younger.
What if I am one of two (or three, etc) authors?
Not a problem. As long as the submitting author meets our residency requirement, other authors or illustrators don't have to be from the region.
I'm the illustrator, not the author. Can I still apply?
Absolutely. Illustrators are encouraged to apply to the White Pines Collection.
Can I submit on behalf of my parent, spouse, other family member or friend?
Please encourage your family member to submit themselves. Family can deliver the application, but the author must sign the form and must meet the residency requirement with their own home address.
Why do you have a residency requirement?
The White Pines Collection exists to highlight and promote local authors in our communities. If you are a local author in a neighbouring community, we encourage you to submit to your own local library.
Can I submit if I used to live in the area, but have moved?
For the first year of the Collection, we are focusing on current residents of the Tri-Cities, Anmore, or Belcarra. We encourage you to look to your local library in your new community.
What does "professionally printed and bound" mean?
We ask that books are professionally printed and bound so we can shelve your book in our library, and so that your book will not fall apart when readers borrow it. If your book was printed by a publishing service, then there's a good chance it will be able to withstand circulation and be a good fit for the library! However, loose papers, stapled booklets, binders, duo tangs, or screw and post bindings would not be acceptable.
Will you also consider my older books?
The White Pines Collection only considers books published (i.e., with a copyright date) within the past five years. For the 2019 Collection we will be accepting books published between 2013 and 2019. While we can't add your back catalogue to the collection, we encourage you to consider us for your future publications!
Will my book be accepted?
All submissions must meet our selection criteria and be approved by a selection committee. Submitting an application package does not guarantee that your book will be added to the White Pines Collection.
What if my book isn't selected?
If a book is not selected for the Collection, the author will be contacted to arrange the return of the item.
I still have questions. Who can I contact?
If you have a question we haven't answered here, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
