Your donation allows the Library to enhance its services and meet changing community needs. Donations are tax deductible and can be made in your name – or someone else’s name to celebrate a special event or in memoriam. Every donation makes a difference! Here’s how you can help.
Sponsor the purchase of books and other items for the library collection. Every adopted item is identified with a donor plate to recognize your support.
The average costs for library materials are: $60 for unabridged audiobooks; $50 for a magazine subscription; $40 for an adult hardcover book; and $30 for a children’s hardcover book. By contributing one of these amounts, you can help expand our collection in your area of interest. Adopt-a-book contributions are tax deductible.
To adopt a book, simply complete the Adopt-a-book form and mail it to us – or drop it off in person at the library. We appreciate your support!
Designate your gift for specific library services or let us allocate funds towards our greatest need. Funds can be used to upgrade equipment, refurbish branches, purchase new books and specialty collections or expand services and programs in a particular area. Your donation is tax deductible. Please contact the Director, Library Services for more information.
Consider providing a gift to the Library when planning your estate. Planned giving, which can result in important tax savings, is increasingly popular with donors and is an important fundraising tool for the Port Moody Public Library. It is a strategy of gifting through such means as a Will, a Life Insurance policy, an RRSP, an RRIF, a charitable give annually, a charitable remainder of trust, a gift of property made now or a gift of residual interest in property. Different types of donations have different income tax and legal implications for the donor. Please contact the Director, Library Services for more information.
Book and AV donations
The Library appreciates donations of books and audiovisual materials. After careful consideration by our librarians, your donated materials will either be added to the Library’s collection or included in our book sales. The library reserves the right to say ‘No, thank you” to donations that will not enhance the collection or the book sale. Library materials receive a lot of wear and tear, so donations must be in excellent condition to stand up to the high use they will receive.
We particularly like to receive:
- Books published in the last 5 years and recognized classics
- Material about Port Moody
- Popular paperbacks
- Commercially produced CDs and DVDs
- Books in other languages
- General interest magazines published in the last year
- All donations should be in excellent physical condition
Please be aware that we do not accept the following items:
- Materials in poor condition (torn, musty smelling, yellow pages, worn)
- Out of date books
- Pamphlets, government documents etc.
- News magazines
- Books over 10 years old
- Personally copied CDs or DVDs
- Used colouring, sticker or workbooks
Kindly drop off your donations at the library. Due to limited space, we can only accept two bags or one small box of books at a time. Please note that the library does not evaluate materials for tax receipt purposes.
